A lesson in Canadian kindness

That the Canadians are kind people is commonly known. But experiencing it yourself is truly something else. It happened in Toronto, Dundas Street Station.

We arrived in Toronto by a
Megabus connection from the Canadian side of the Niagara Falls and had just got something to eat. The next step was to get to the hostel so we went to the next subway station to find a map of the subway system of the biggest town in Canada.

We checked the map at Dundas Street Station and we figured out that we had to get to the Union Station. But we were unsure if it would make sense to have a day pass or just a single ride for the start. We weren't sure yet if we would need another ride for the next two days.

While evaluating the situation we got approached by a middle-aged woman who offered us her help. She explained which line we had to go and also told us about all the important places we should see in
Toronto - a city she truly adored.

As we went to the ticket machine with her and tried to figure which amount of coins would made the most sense for us, there was the option we were looking for not available. So the women told us to go to the man at the counter to get the coins.

That was probably just a distraction move. At the same time the woman took two coins (for two single rides) for us from the machine, gave them to us and went away with a smile.

A quite surprising action, none of us expected it, but that was for me a great example of Canadian kindness. We got our ride to Union Station and from there it wasn't too far to reach the hostel.
