The smallest airport I've ever seen - Region of Waterloo International Airport

There are surely smaller airports around the world, but for me that was the smallest one I've seen yet. For me first known as Toronto-Kitchener but its real name is Region of Waterloo International Airport.

The flight to Chicago was booked by mistake and somehow we made to this airport from Toronto. Before my arrival I was aware it will be a small airport. But it was even more mini than I expected: First off, there were just three arrivals and three departures on a single day.

And as you went in you could basically see everything important:
  • the airport desks
  • one (!) baggage claim carousel
  • one (!) snackbar
  • a few benches
  • toilets
I've been to a few airports where I thought that they're little but that one was something else. It's not any criticism or so, everything went well there and it was a nice experience.

Even the people working there were nice (as we should know by now, it's Canada): One of them asked us where we are from and following that we were told that Kitchener was once called 'Berlin' like the German capital, but the name was changed during the first World War. But they still have their own Oktoberfest. Interesting, didn't know that.

After getting through the checks they also had a nice little waiting area at the gate. And following that came another new experience for me: I got into the smallest plane I've ever flown with.

It was just with three seats in a row which meant a single seat, the aisle and two other seats. The flight was a real interesting experience as we got from there over the Lake Michigan to Chicago.

Even if it has initially happened by a booking error, I'm glad for having seen this special airport near a city with the former name 'Berlin'.
